CULTURAL CAPITAL
Yogyakarta is located on the south coast of the island Java between Mount Merapi and the Indian ocean. The city is the undisputed cultural capital of Indonesia and has become an international tourist destination. In the historic city center, we find the palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, Hamengku Buwono X, and only a short distance outside the ancient city of Buddhist Borobudur and the Hindu temple complex of Prambanan. The area is also famous for its traditional batik, silver and leather crafts, wood carvings and stone sculptures. Besides, Yogyakarta serves as the center of higher education with more than 60 universities and academies, including the eminent Gadjah Mada University which was founded in 1948 as the first university of the state of Indonesia. The Yogyakarta International School (YIS) was founded in 1989 as the flagship of Yogyakarta primary and secondary international education. In the next school year Yogyakarta International School (YIS) will celebrate its 25th anniversary.
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Yogyakarta International School adheres to accreditation standards are based on international studies programs. Being an independent school, YIS accepts students regardless of nationality, gender, race or faith. The school operates under a legal foundation that is fully licensed by the Ministry of Education and is a member of the Asia Regional Council of Eastern schools overseas (earcos).
VISION AND MISSION
Life is a continuous learning cycle, and school education is an essential part of this, we teach the art of "building our ship as we navigate. YIS aims to prepare its students for their journey through life by offering high quality education in a safe learning environment, inspiring and stimulating that develops self-confidence, independence and sense of responsibility for a child. The curriculum is taught in English, but simultaneously reflects and is responsive to the international composition of the school community. For non-English speaking students, the school offers special classes for ESL (English Second Language). Other languages taught at YIS include Spanish, French, Mandarin and Indonesia.
CURRICULUMS CHARTERED
YIS claims to be the only international school in Yogyakarta which offers a full range of education from preschool / kindergarten (3-6 years ), elementary school (6-12 years), Junior High school (12-16 years), high school (16-18 years). The curricula are based on the primary international Programme (CPI), Cambridge (IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate (MYP / IB). This implies that the reports, diplomas and certificates issued by YIS are compatible with other international schools in Indonesia and abroad, and universities worldwide.
TOPICS extracurricular
In addition to the regular curriculum, the Yis students have a wide choice of extra-curricular subjects to develop their creative skills and sports skills including music and theater, club and green kitchen laboratory, oil painting and stone sculpture, robotics and 3D modeling, swimming and taekwondo, soccer and field hockey, basketball basketball and badminton. In addition, students join in cultural and scientific excursions and participate in exchange programs with other international schools.
QUALIFIED TEACHERS
International YIS teachers are university-trained and come from native English speaking countries. By sharing their professional qualifications and experiences abroad, they apply the highest international standards of classroom teaching and aim simultaneously role models to motivate and guide students. The international team of teachers is supported by highly qualified national teachers assistants, and specialist teachers on topics such as music, arts, sports, mathematics, information technology and foreign languages.
SCHOOL CAMPUS
The YIS campus is strategically located in a residential area in the northern part of Yogyakarta with easy access from the ring road city. The school is located in a large garden surrounded by teak, mango, cocoa, star fruit and other trees. All classrooms face a central courtyard that serves as the main assembly and playground. The school has its own sports fields, basketball court, lab science, music studio, art studio, library, computer lab, language center and canteen. school's current expansion plans also include internships for students whose parents live outside the city or abroad.
STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
The international community of students YIS currently 16 different nationalities, including not only students from overseas, but also Indonesian nationals. Tuition fees are usually payable at the beginning of the school year in August, but can also be paid quarterly. The all-in annual tuition fees for the next academic year 2013-2014 YIS 4,500 USD range for Pre-School, to USD 6,500 for kindergarten, 7,500 USD for the primary school and 8 ' 500 USD for Junior and senior High School. As there is a limit to the number of new students the school can accommodate, parents are asked to register their children before the registration date.
